Hebei, June 16, 2024, The Europe Today: Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong has called for intensified efforts in drought prevention and summer sowing to solidify the foundation for a successful autumn grain harvest. During an inspection tour in north China’s Hebei Province on Saturday, Liu, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the importance of strategic measures to address these critical agricultural tasks.
Liu highlighted the need for the scientific allocation of water resources and the enhancement of agricultural water conservation practices. He also stressed the importance of timely cloud seeding operations, which should be carried out based on current meteorological conditions and the specific needs of summer sowing.
To mitigate the effects of drought, Liu called for strengthened technical guidance and services, urging support for farmers to plant drought-resistant crops in affected regions. He emphasized the necessity of closely monitoring and studying the drought situation to implement effective and timely responses.
The Vice Premier also stressed the importance of regional and departmental coordination in dispatching agricultural machinery. Ensuring the smooth transportation, harvest, purchase, and storage of summer grain is crucial for maintaining agricultural productivity and securing food supplies.
Liu’s inspection tour and his directives are part of a broader effort by the Chinese government to ensure food security and support agricultural resilience amid changing climate conditions. By focusing on drought prevention and efficient summer sowing, China aims to achieve a robust autumn grain harvest, thereby reinforcing the nation’s agricultural foundation.
