China’s Women’s Volleyball Team Set to Face Tough Competition in Paris Olympics

Paris, June 19, 2024, The Europe Today: China’s women’s volleyball team will face a challenging lineup in the first stage of the Paris 2024 Olympics, squaring off against host nation France, defending Olympic champions the United States, and reigning world champions Serbia.

The team is determined to rebound from its disappointing performance at the Tokyo Olympics, where the three-time Olympic champions were eliminated in the first stage, marking their worst-ever Olympic showing.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will mark China’s 11th consecutive Olympic appearance in women’s volleyball, continuing an unbroken streak since their debut in Los Angeles in 1984. During this period, they secured Olympic gold three times: in Los Angeles (1984), Athens (2004), and Rio de Janeiro (2016).

The draw for the 12 qualified teams, held in Bangkok ahead of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Finals, placed China in Pool A alongside France, the United States, and Serbia. The other groups feature Brazil, Poland, Japan, and Kenya in Pool B, while Italy, Türkiye, the Netherlands, and the Dominican Republic form Pool C.

The format of the tournament stipulates that the winners and runners-up of each pool, along with the two best-ranked third-placed teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.

The Olympic volleyball tournament at Paris 2024 is scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 11 at the South Paris Arena, promising intense competition and high stakes as teams vie for the prestigious Olympic gold.

China’s squad, driven by the desire to reclaim their status as a powerhouse in women’s volleyball, is set to put forth their best effort in what promises to be a thrilling contest against some of the world’s top teams.
