Indonesia to Host Asia Road Racing Championship and MotoGP in Mandalika This Year

Jakarta, June 21, 2024, The Europe Today: Indonesia has officially announced its readiness to host rounds of the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) and MotoGP this year at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in the eastern province of West Nusa Tenggara. The ARRC will take place from July 26 to 28, followed by the MotoGP race on September 27 and 28.

Indonesia’s State Enterprises Minister, Erick Thohir, emphasized the significance of these events not only as premier motorbike racing competitions but also as substantial opportunities for promoting sports tourism in Indonesia. Thohir highlighted the potential of these events to become significant sources of foreign exchange revenues.

“We have the opportunity to attract global attention while providing maximum benefits for the local community and economy, as well as strengthening Mandalika’s position as ‘The Ultimate Lifestyle Sportstainment Destination’,” said Thohir. He assured that the ministry is fully supporting both competitions.

Mandalika, a special economic zone located in the southern part of Lombok, boasts a 2.68-mile (4.3 km) circuit with 17 corners that showcase various tourism spots. The region has hosted several international events to advance tourism and spur economic growth.

The upcoming ARRC and MotoGP events are expected to draw significant global attention, providing a platform for Indonesia to highlight its rich culture, scenic beauty, and vibrant local economy. As preparations continue, the country looks forward to welcoming visitors and participants from around the world to experience the excitement and splendor of Mandalika.
