Xi Jinping Confident in Continued Growth of China-Belarus Relations

Astana, July 04, 2024, The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed strong confidence in the continued healthy and progressive development of China-Belarus relations during a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana.

President Xi congratulated Belarus on its official membership in the SCO, acknowledging President Lukashenko’s two visits to China in 2023, during which both leaders outlined a new blueprint for the China-Belarus all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership. Xi noted that this year has seen close communication at all levels and effective implementation of the consensus reached between the two countries.

In response, President Lukashenko expressed gratitude for China’s support in Belarus’s SCO membership and congratulated China on assuming the rotating presidency of the SCO. He highlighted the warm reception of the Guard of Honor of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in Belarus on Wednesday as another testament to the strong friendship between the two nations.

Lukashenko affirmed Belarus’s support for several initiatives proposed by Xi, including the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. He also expressed support for the six-point consensus jointly proposed by China and Brazil for a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. The Belarusian President emphasized his country’s eagerness to strengthen both bilateral and multilateral coordination with China.

This meeting underscores the mutual commitment of China and Belarus to enhancing their strategic partnership and collaborating closely on international platforms.
