Krakow, July 13, 2024, The Europe Today: In a thrilling encounter at the Hubert Wagner Memorial, Poland’s men’s volleyball team staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Germany 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-12) on Saturday.

Under the guidance of coach Nikola Grbic, the Polish team secured their second victory in the tournament following a straight-sets win over Egypt. Łukasz Kaczmarek led the team with an impressive 15 points, while Mateusz Bieniek contributed 14. For Germany, György Grozer and Anton Brehme each recorded 15 points.

They claimed the first set 25-20, driven by strong middle attacks from Tobias Krick. Continuing their momentum, Germany took the second set 25-22, showcasing an effective blocking strategy.

However, Poland reversed the course of the match as Tomasz Fornal, Kaczmarek, and Grzegorz Łomacz spearheaded a spectacular comeback. The hosts leveled the match by winning the third and fourth sets 25-19 and 25-21, respectively.

In the decisive tie-break, Grbic’s squad displayed their quality and resilience. They quickly built a four-point lead, eventually sealing the set 15-12 with a dominant block, extinguishing Germany’s hopes of a win.

Poland will next face Slovenia on Sunday, while Germany is set to compete against Egypt in the final round of the Wagner Memorial.
