Bandar Seri Begawan, August 13, 2024, The Europe Today: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), presided over the 36th UBD Convocation Ceremony yesterday, presenting certificates to 1,158 graduates. The graduates included 35 PhD recipients, 302 Master’s degree holders, 787 Bachelor’s degree recipients, and 34 graduates who earned diplomas.
His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Pro-Chancellor of UBD, also attended the prestigious event.
Upon arrival, His Majesty and His Royal Highness were welcomed by Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh and UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle.
The ceremony was conducted in two sessions: in the morning, His Majesty presented certificates to PhD and Bachelor’s degree graduates, while in the afternoon, His Royal Highness awarded certificates to Master’s graduates and diploma recipients. The event began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, followed by Haji Muhammad Izzuddin bin Haji Nor Hisham, an undergraduate student, reciting verses 54 to 58 of Surah Al-A’raf. The translation was delivered by fellow student Mohd Faiz bin Haji Ariffin.
His Majesty delivered a titah, emphasizing the importance of education and innovation, before the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the graduates and guests. The presentation of certificates to the graduates followed, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys.
The ceremony concluded with the recitation of Doa, after which His Majesty and His Royal Highness toured a special exhibition showcasing the latest research, innovations, and student achievements at UBD.
A notable highlight of this year’s convocation was the graduation of the first cohort of students from the newly established School of Digital Science (SDS), reflecting UBD’s commitment to advancing digital education and innovation in the country.
