Baku, August 29, 2024, The Europe Today: The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that on August 28, at approximately 6:30 p.m., units of the Armenian armed forces fired on positions held by the Azerbaijani Army in the direction of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The incident occurred near the Shada settlement in the Shahbuz district of Nakhchivan, with Armenian forces launching their attack from positions near the Sultanbey settlement in the Pashali district.

In response to the provocation, the Azerbaijani Army took immediate retaliatory measures in the affected area. The Defense Ministry has not disclosed further details regarding the outcome of these actions or any potential casualties.

Tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan have been a long-standing issue, particularly concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh region and adjacent areas, including Nakhchivan. Incidents of cross-border fire have been a recurring challenge, underscoring the fragile nature of the ceasefire agreements in the region.
