Baku, August 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has extended heartfelt condolences to the President of Romania following the passing of former Romanian President and distinguished statesman Ion Iliescu.
In his message, President Aliyev expressed deep sorrow over the news and acknowledged Ion Iliescu’s significant role in fostering the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Romania. He highlighted Iliescu’s notable contributions to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
“Ion Iliescu made significant contributions to the establishment and development of relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Romania, as well as to the strengthening of the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our countries,” President Aliyev noted, recalling his meetings with the late Romanian leader with fondness and respect.
Concluding his message, President Aliyev conveyed his sincere condolences to the Romanian President, the family of Ion Iliescu, and the people of Romania during this time of mourning.
