Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan Discuss Strengthening Trade and Transport Cooperation

Bishkek, August 29, 2024, The Europe Today: A meeting between Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Economy and Commerce, Daniyar Amangeldiev, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Bishkek, Nury Golliyev, focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, economic, and transport sectors. The discussions highlighted the mutual interests of both nations in these critical areas.

During the meeting, Ambassador Golliyev emphasized the significance of collaboration in international freight transportation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. He underscored the importance of establishing a transport corridor from China through Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, extending to Turkmenistan with access to the Caspian Sea. This initiative, reported by Tazabek.kg with reference to the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is seen as a vital step towards bolstering regional connectivity and trade.

Ambassador Golliyev also highlighted the positive growth dynamics in mutual trade volumes and expressed optimism about the potential for further cooperation in the energy and agriculture sectors. The discussions underscored the strategic importance of these sectors in strengthening the economic ties between the two countries.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the agreements reached during the 6th meeting of the intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Turkmen Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Humanitarian Cooperation, which took place on July 24-25 in Cholpon-Ata. The implementation of these agreements is expected to further enhance bilateral relations and contribute to the prosperity of both nations.
