Malaysia Pledges Continued Leadership as ASEAN Chair, Focus on Long-Term Vision

Kuala Lumpur, September 06, 2024, The Europe Today: Malaysia remains committed to strengthening its leadership within ASEAN, even beyond its one-year tenure as Chair, said Deputy Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong. Speaking at the 25th Asia News Network Anniversary on Thursday, Liew underscored Malaysia’s dedication to fostering sustained cooperation among ASEAN member nations.

During the dialogue session, Liew emphasized the importance of securing the endorsement of ASEAN members for Malaysia’s ASEAN Community Vision 2045. This strategic vision is intended to guide the region’s development over the next two decades. “Our goal is to ensure that Malaysia’s ASEAN Community Vision 2045 serves as a comprehensive roadmap for the long-term growth and integration of our region,” he stated.

Enhancing Media Cooperation

Liew also highlighted Malaysia’s plans to enhance collaboration within the media sector. He announced Malaysia’s intention to convene economic and business editors from across ASEAN in Kuala Lumpur next year to strengthen regional cooperation in economic reporting. “Media plays a crucial role in shaping perceptions and fostering understanding, and we aim to bring together the region’s leading voices to facilitate greater economic cooperation,” he added.

As Malaysia moves forward with its role as ASEAN Chair, the nation’s focus on long-term development and regional collaboration reaffirms its commitment to a prosperous and integrated Southeast Asia.
