Baku, September 24, 2024, The Europe Today: TÜSAŞ CEO Mehmet Demiroğlu announced the successful completion of the first phase of Azerbaijan’s “Su-25” aircraft modernization project in a statement to journalists. The joint effort between Azerbaijan and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TÜSAŞ) aims to enhance the capabilities of Azerbaijan’s defense sector.
“We have completed the first phase of the ‘Su-25’ modernization. While most of the work will take place in Baku, one aircraft will be sent to Ankara for specialized upgrades,” said Demiroğlu. This project holds significant importance for both Azerbaijan’s defense industry and the broader regional ecosystem.
As part of future plans, Demiroğlu revealed that TÜSAŞ will introduce its HÜRKUŞ training aircraft to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani military pilots will undergo training in Ankara, with the project’s final stages expected to conclude in the coming months.
In addition, discussions are ongoing for the potential delivery of fifth-generation “Kaan” aircraft to Azerbaijan. “We are working to meet Azerbaijan’s needs in this area, but as the project is still in its early stages, concrete details are not yet available. The project is expected to continue until 2030,” Demiroğlu added.
This modernization project signals a strengthening of defense ties between Azerbaijan and Turkey, and underscores Azerbaijan’s ongoing commitment to bolstering its military capabilities.
