Buyunchaokete Overcomes Shang Juncheng in Three-Set Battle at 2024 China Open

Beijing, September 27, 2024 – The Europe Today: In a thrilling Chinese derby, Buyunchaokete staged a comeback to defeat Shang Juncheng 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-4 during the men’s singles first round at the 2024 China Open on Friday.

Shang, fresh off his maiden ATP Tour title at the Chengdu Open earlier this week, secured the opening set in a tiebreaker. However, Buyunchaokete, who also came into the match in strong form after reaching his first ATP Tour semifinal in Hangzhou, forced a deciding third set.

Buyunchaokete broke Shang’s serve in the opening game of the third set and, despite Shang’s effort to level the match at 4-4, maintained his composure. An ace allowed Buyunchaokete to regain control, and the 22-year-old closed out the match 6-4 after a grueling two-and-a-half-hour contest.

The win marks Buyunchaokete’s first ATP 500 victory and his fifth overall on the tour, propelling him to the next round of the tournament.
