Vietnam and Mauritania Forge Closer Ties During Leadership Meeting in Paris

Paris, October 06, 2024 – The Europe Today: Tô Lâm, Party General Secretary and State President of Vietnam, met with Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, President of Mauritania and current Chairperson of the African Union (AU), in Paris on October 5, during his visit to France for the 19th Francophonie Summit.

In the meeting, Lâm praised the deepening traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Mauritania. He expressed gratitude for the valuable support the Mauritanian government and its people provided to Vietnam during its struggle for national independence.

Lâm commended Mauritania’s leadership role within the AU and expressed appreciation for the organization’s support in facilitating Vietnam’s process to become an official observer of the AU starting in December 2023.

Ghazouani congratulated Vietnam on its achievements, recognizing the country as a success model for African nations, including Mauritania. He expressed confidence that Vietnam would serve as an active bridge for cooperation between the AU and ASEAN.

To enhance Vietnam-Mauritania relations, both leaders agreed to increase delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, fostering political trust and creating new momentum for bilateral cooperation. During the meeting, Lâm also invited Ghazouani to visit Vietnam at a mutually convenient time, reinforcing the commitment to further strengthen ties between the two nations.
