Baku, October 09, 2024 – The Europe Today: President Ilham Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan’s longstanding active role in the international arena and its unique position as a bridge among global actors during a reception for Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations. The President expressed optimism about the successful conduct of the upcoming COP29 climate conference, which will be hosted in Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s cooperative efforts with key international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the European Union. He noted that Azerbaijan has signed several strategic partnership agreements with various European countries, reinforcing its commitment to international collaboration. “All these factors provide a solid basis for the successful holding of COP29 in Azerbaijan,” he stated.
The President also outlined Azerbaijan’s dedication to achieving consensus during the COP29 discussions. He mentioned the importance of the “Troika” format, underlining Azerbaijan’s active engagement with the United Arab Emirates, which hosted COP28, and Brazil, the upcoming host of COP30.
Azerbaijan’s leadership and strategic partnerships are positioned to enhance the effectiveness of COP29, as the country continues to play a pivotal role in addressing global climate challenges.
