AZAL and China Discuss Expanding Flight Routes to Boost Connectivity

Baku, October 17, 2024 – The Europe Today: President of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Samir Rzayev met with Chinese Chargé d’Affaires Ding Tao to discuss the expansion of air traffic between Azerbaijan and China, according to AZAL’s press service.

During the meeting, the parties highlighted the increasing number of passengers traveling between the two countries. Currently, AZAL operates two weekly flights on the Baku-Beijing route, with plans to increase this frequency to three flights per week in 2025 to meet rising demand.

The discussions also explored potential new routes to major Chinese cities such as Guangzhou and Shanghai, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and offer more travel options for passengers.

Both sides emphasized Baku’s strategic importance as a key transit hub between China and Europe, noting that improved air traffic would enhance tourism and solidify Azerbaijan’s role in global passenger and cargo transportation.
