Chinese Aircraft Carriers Liaoning and Shandong Conduct First Dual Formation Exercise in South China Sea

Qingdao, November 1, 2024 – The Europe Today: The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy announced that its aircraft carriers, Liaoning and Shandong, have successfully conducted their first dual aircraft carrier formation exercise in the South China Sea. This significant training aimed to enhance the integrated combat capabilities of the aircraft carrier formations.

The exercise was part of Liaoning’s regular real-combat training in high seas, which has recently concluded. It took place in various waters, including the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, and the South China Sea, and involved multiple scenarios simulating real-combat conditions.

Liaoning, recognized as China’s first aircraft carrier, was delivered and commissioned into the PLA Navy in September 2012. This latest drill highlights China’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its naval capabilities and assert its presence in critical maritime regions.
