Shanghai, November 6, 2024 – The Europe Today: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at The Grand Halls on Tuesday, reinforcing Malaysia-China relations and advancing key cooperative initiatives since their last meeting in Putrajaya in June. During their discussions, Anwar expressed Malaysia’s gratitude for China’s strong support in facilitating Malaysia’s engagement with BRICS, the influential bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Highlighting the breadth of cooperation, Anwar noted that the partnership now extends across various sectors, including economic, social, educational, military, and border security, reflecting a deepening bilateral relationship. He recalled Premier Li’s recent visit to Malaysia as a significant milestone that set the stage for key investments and accelerated dialogues on important issues.
Anwar’s working visit, taking place from Nov 4 to 7, includes Malaysia’s participation in the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE). He is joined by senior officials, including Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, and Minister of Human Resources Steven Sim Chee Keong.
China remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner for the 15th consecutive year, underscoring the enduring strength and depth of the Malaysia-China economic partnership.
