China and France Strengthen Strategic Cooperation in 26th China-France Strategic Dialogue

Beijing, December 15, 2024 – The Europe Today: Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the 26th China-France Strategic Dialogue with Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron, in Beijing on Saturday.

Wang highlighted the close interaction between the two heads of state over the past year, emphasizing the importance of China-France relations as a driving force for the development of China-Europe relations and the promotion of global peace and stability. He proposed four key points to further strengthen bilateral ties: first, to take the consensus of both heads of state as a guide and create more positive agendas; second, to promote pragmatic cooperation by leveraging traditional strengths and exploring new avenues for collaboration in advanced industries; third, to continue benefiting from the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism, enhancing people-to-people exchanges; and fourth, to jointly uphold multilateralism.

Bonne affirmed France’s commitment to the traditional friendship and mutual trust between the two nations, reiterating France’s adherence to the one-China policy and the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges with China. He expressed France’s intention to collaborate with China to set ambitious goals and expand innovative cooperation across various sectors. Bonne also emphasized France’s opposition to bloc confrontations and its commitment to an independent diplomatic path.

The two sides also agreed to deepen cooperation on critical global issues, including climate change, biodiversity, sustainable development, and poverty reduction. They discussed the economic and trade relations between China and Europe, with both parties aiming to resolve issues through constructive dialogue. Bonne reiterated that France does not support trade wars and advocates for mutually beneficial cooperation between Europe and China.

In addition to these discussions, Wang and Bonne exchanged views on global challenges such as the Ukraine crisis, the Iranian nuclear issue, and the situation in the Middle East, reinforcing their commitment to coordinated multilateral efforts.
