Lào Cai, December 22, 2024 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính conducted an inspection of the Lào Cai – Hanoi – Hải Phòng railway construction site and presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Golden Square Lào Cai social housing project in Lào Cai City on Sunday.
The nearly 400km railway, estimated to cost US$11.6 billion, will connect nine provinces and cities, including Lào Cai, Hanoi, and Hải Phòng, with completion targeted by the end of 2030. PM Chính emphasized the importance of streamlined procedures and urged close collaboration between the Ministry of Transport and relevant authorities to finalize investment policies and mechanisms. He also stressed the need for a direct and efficient railway route and effective coordination with China for seamless cross-border connectivity.
Additionally, PM Chính called for integrated development along the railway line, including logistics zones, service warehouses, and urban areas, to maximize its economic potential.
Later, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Golden Square Lào Cai social housing project in Bắc Lềnh Ward, a VNĐ2.08 trillion ($81.91 million) development expected to accommodate over 5,600 residents in four high-rise buildings by 2029. The project is part of the Government’s ambitious plan to deliver one million social housing units by 2030.
In his remarks, PM Chính urged stakeholders to expedite land use planning, ensure quality living standards, and provide long-term financial support for social housing buyers and renters. He emphasized the need to redefine social housing as modern, sustainable, and fully equipped with essential infrastructure and amenities, while also working to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing by mid-2025.
