Addis Ababa, December 25, 2024 – The Europe Today: Ethiopia has expressed dismay over the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia on December 23, 2024, which alleges Ethiopian forces’ involvement in an incident in the town of Doolow, Somalia. Ethiopia firmly denies these allegations, stating they are unfounded.
The Ethiopian government attributes the incident to certain elements aiming to derail the normalization of relations between Ethiopia and Somalia. It identified these third parties as persistent spoilers of peace in the Horn of Africa, emphasizing the need to prevent their destabilizing activities from undermining the commitment of both nations to peace as outlined in the Ankara Declaration.
Ethiopia reiterated its dedication to working with relevant Somali agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Ethiopian government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening fraternal relations with Somalia, grounded in the principles of the Ankara Declaration.
The statement further highlighted the resolve and leadership of both nations in bolstering bilateral partnerships and fostering broader regional cooperation to ensure stability and progress in the Horn of Africa.
