Hanoi, December 31, 2024 – The Europe Today: Hanoi has set an ambitious target of attracting over 30 million tourists in 2025, including seven million international visitors, according to a conference on the city’s tourism sector held on Monday.
The city’s Tourism Department reported that the tourism sector in Hanoi experienced impressive growth in 2024, achieving significant milestones. The total number of tourists visiting the city reached 27.86 million, marking a 12.7% increase from the previous year. Of this total, international visitors numbered 6.35 million, while domestic tourists accounted for 21.51 million.
Hanoi also saw a notable revenue boost in its tourism sector, generating approximately VNĐ110.5 trillion, an 18.3% rise compared to 2023. The average hotel occupancy rate reached 62%, which was 2.9 percentage points higher than in the previous year.
Recognized as one of Vietnam’s two largest tourist hubs, Hanoi continues to be a key driver of tourism in the northern region. The city introduced over 20 new night tourism products and developed seven pedestrian streets showcasing food and cultural activities. Internationally, Hanoi gained recognition as a leading travel destination, winning prestigious awards such as Asia’s Leading City Destination and the World’s Best Golf City Destination 2024 by the World Travel Awards. It was also named among the ‘100 Most Attractive Cities’ by Euromonitor International, further solidifying its appeal to global tourists.
For 2025, Hanoi aims to boost its tourism revenue to over VNĐ130 trillion. The city plans to diversify its offerings, with a focus on night tours, culinary tourism, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism, as well as wellness tourism. Additionally, Hanoi will expand its river-based tourism routes along the Red River and Đuống River, connecting central Hanoi to areas such as Sơn Tây and Ba Vì.
To support these goals, the city will enhance its infrastructure, integrate digital technologies into tourism management, and streamline administrative services through online platforms. The city also plans to intensify its international promotion efforts, focusing on key markets in Northeast Asia, ASEAN, and the EU, while also exploring emerging markets like India, Eastern Europe, and Halal-friendly destinations.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hồ An Phong praised Hanoi’s leadership in national tourism and urged the city to strengthen regional partnerships, diversify its tourism products, and integrate cultural industries to further solidify its position as Vietnam’s tourism leader.
