China and Republic of Congo Strengthen China-Africa Partnership

Brazzaville, January 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: China and the Republic of Congo have reaffirmed their dedication to advancing China-Africa cooperation and promoting shared development, emphasizing their strategic partnership and mutual aspirations.

The consensus was reached during talks in Brazzaville on Tuesday between Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

President Sassou welcomed Wang’s visit, extending New Year greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and reflecting on the historic significance of President Xi’s 2013 visit to Congo, the first overseas trip after he assumed office. Sassou emphasized Africa’s growing influence on the global stage and expressed hope that China’s sustained engagement with the continent would encourage the international community to enhance support for Africa.

Highlighting President Xi’s “10 Partnership Action Plans” introduced at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Sassou praised their alignment with Africa’s development priorities. He noted that the plans address crucial challenges such as infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and industrialization—key areas for Congo’s and Africa’s growth. Pledging Congo’s active role as FOCAC co-chair, Sassou vowed to drive the successful implementation of these initiatives to deepen China-Africa cooperation.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed President Xi’s greetings and reaffirmed China’s enduring commitment to Africa. Describing Congo as a vital partner, Wang lauded the country’s progress under Sassou’s leadership and underscored the significance of China’s annual tradition of beginning its foreign minister’s year with a visit to Africa, symbolizing solidarity with African nations.

Wang stressed China’s readiness to remain Congo’s most reliable partner in its development journey, supporting its efforts to enhance international cooperation and influence through its co-chairmanship of FOCAC.

“China is committed to working closely with Congo to fully implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit, focusing on shared modernization goals, promoting Africa’s development, and bolstering Congo’s role on the global stage,” Wang said.

The talks further solidified the strong ties between China and the Republic of Congo and underscored their shared vision for a prosperous future for Africa.
