Turkmenistan Advances Statistical Modernization Aligned with International Standards

Ashgabat, January 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan is making significant strides to align its statistical reporting with the improved version of the System of National Accounts (SNA). Deputy Prime Minister H. Geldimyradov provided an update on these efforts during a Government meeting held on January 10, as reported by TDH.

The modernization of the domestic statistical system is being carried out to meet contemporary demands, with active cooperation underway with international financial organizations. This initiative aligns with the “Program of the President of Turkmenistan for Socio-Economic Development 2022–2028,” which prioritizes upgraded statistical practices.

As part of the transition to the enhanced SNA version, new methodologies have been developed and implemented. These include updates to state classifiers, financial, banking, and insurance activities, science and tourism sectors, and calculations related to the consumption of fixed assets.

A corresponding proposal regarding these measures was submitted to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for consideration. Upon reviewing the report, the President emphasized the importance of further enhancing the domestic statistical framework and strengthening collaboration with international financial organizations.

President Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals and directed the Deputy Prime Minister to continue advancing the statistical system to meet global standards, ensuring its alignment with modern requirements.
