IMF Chief Kristalina Georgieva to Visit Ethiopia for High-Level Talks

Addis Ababa, February 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, is set to embark on a two-day visit to Addis Ababa in early February, where she will engage in high-level discussions with Ethiopian leadership.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, Georgieva will meet with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other senior officials to discuss ongoing economic reforms and Ethiopia’s engagement with the IMF.

Her visit comes six months after the IMF approved an extended credit facility program for Ethiopia, under which the country has implemented significant policy reforms to stabilize and grow its economy.

The IMF chief will also hold discussions with representatives from the private sector, highlighting the importance of economic resilience and investment in Ethiopia’s growth strategy.

“This visit reaffirms the IMF’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s economic development and fostering dialogue on policies aimed at ensuring resilience, and shared and lasting prosperity,” the Ministry’s statement emphasized.

Georgieva’s visit underscores the IMF’s continued partnership with Ethiopia as the country navigates structural reforms and seeks sustainable economic progress.
