Beijing, April 14, 2026 – The Europe Today: Xi Jinping held talks with Pedro Sánchez in Beijing on Tuesday, according to state news agency Xinhua, as both sides seek to further enhance bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Sánchez, who arrived in China on Saturday for a five-day visit—his fourth since taking office—is focusing on bolstering economic relations, strengthening strategic mutual trust, and expanding collaboration across key sectors.

Discussions are expected to cover cooperation in technology, trade, and green energy, reflecting shared priorities in sustainable development and innovation.

The visit comes approximately five months after King Felipe VI undertook a state visit to China—the first by a Spanish monarch in 18 years—signaling renewed momentum in bilateral relations between the two countries.

Economic ties between Spain and China have continued to grow steadily, with bilateral trade surpassing $55 billion last year. China remains Spain’s largest trading partner outside the European Union, underscoring the importance of the relationship.

The latest high-level engagement highlights both nations’ commitment to deepening cooperation and advancing shared economic and strategic interests in an evolving global landscape.
