Western Azerbaijan Community Denounces Provocation Against National Religious and Cultural Dignity

Baku, February 9, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Western Azerbaijan Community has strongly condemned the alleged desecration of a historic Azerbaijani mosque in the Tepebashi district of Yerevan, following the circulation of a video on social media. The footage reportedly shows the remnants of the mosque being used as a venue for alcohol consumption, which the community described as a “direct provocation against the religious and cultural dignity of the Azerbaijani people.”

In a statement, the community accused Armenia of deliberately erasing Azerbaijani cultural heritage, violating international law, including the 1954 Hague Convention and UNESCO resolutions. It emphasized that such actions undermine regional peace and reconciliation efforts.

“We strongly condemn the destruction of the Tepebashi Mosque and the disgraceful misuse of its remnants. We urge UNESCO and other international organizations to take immediate action, including pressuring Armenia to restore and protect the mosque and other destroyed Azerbaijani monuments,” the statement read.

The community further demanded that the Armenian government fulfill its obligations to restore and preserve all Azerbaijani cultural sites that have been damaged or altered.
