Vietnam’s 15th National Assembly Approves New Government Structure and Leadership

Hanoi, February 18, 2025 – The Europe Today: The National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam has approved a new government structure under the 15th NA term, which will consist of 25 members, including the Prime Minister, seven Deputy Prime Ministers, 14 ministers, and three leaders of ministerial-level agencies.

During an extraordinary session in Hà Nội, a majority of deputies voted in favor of the resolution outlining the revised government structure, which will officially take effect on March 1.

The restructured government will now comprise 14 ministries and three ministerial-level agencies:

  • Ministries: National Defence, Public Security, Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, Justice, Finance, Industry and Trade, Agriculture and Environment, Construction, Culture-Sports-Tourism, Science and Technology, Education and Training, Health, and Ethnic Minorities and Religions.
  • Ministerial-level agencies: State Bank of Vietnam, Government Inspectorate, and Government Office.

As part of the leadership reshuffle, Nguyễn Chí Dũng and Mai Văn Chính were appointed as Deputy Prime Ministers, increasing the total number to seven.

Other key appointments include:

  • Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng as Minister of Science and Technology.
  • Trần Hồng Minh, currently Minister of Transport, as Minister of Construction following the merger of the transport and construction ministries.
  • Đào Ngọc Dung, Minister of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs, as Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions. The new ministry was formed by integrating the Ethnic Minorities Committee with responsibilities from the Ministry of Home Affairs related to religious affairs.
  • The Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs has been merged into the new Ministry of Home Affairs.

Additionally, Lê Minh Hoan, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Vũ Hồng Thanh, Chairman of the NA’s Economic Committee, were elected as Vice Chairmen of the National Assembly.

The restructuring aims to streamline governance, enhance efficiency, and improve coordination between ministries and agencies as Vietnam moves forward with its socio-economic development agenda.
