Baku, February 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: The 15th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) convened in Baku, bringing together parliamentary representatives from approximately 30 countries to discuss the pivotal role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening multilateral cooperation across Asia.
A high-level delegation from Uzbekistan, led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, actively participated in the prestigious forum. During the main session of the Assembly, Chairperson Narbayeva underscored the importance of fostering interparliamentary collaboration and proposed several key initiatives. These included the exchange of experience in parliamentary diplomacy and lawmaking, as well as the establishment of close cooperation on environmental safety and climate change.
Addressing the assembly, Narbayeva highlighted Uzbekistan’s proactive role in advancing regional and international dialogue. “The assembly participants emphasized the active role of the Parliament of Uzbekistan in putting forward essential initiatives to expand regional and international relations, as well as in organizing international events,” she stated.
Notably, she announced that, for the first time in Central Asian history, the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union will be held in Tashkent from April 5-9, 2025. This landmark event, initiated by Uzbekistan, is expected to further enhance regional cooperation and legislative engagement at the global level.
During the APA Plenary Session, participants focused on reinforcing interparliamentary cooperation to effectively implement high-level agreements and facilitate the exchange of legislative expertise. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to strengthening the role of parliaments in addressing pressing global and regional challenges through diplomatic engagement.
The 15th Plenary Session of the APA reaffirmed the significance of parliamentary diplomacy as a driving force for sustainable development, security, and cooperation across Asia.
