Baku, March 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, met with Hugo Guevara, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan, to discuss the Azerbaijan-U.S. Energy Partnership and its role in ensuring regional and European energy security.
During the meeting, both sides explored new cooperation opportunities within Azerbaijan’s internationally significant projects and initiatives in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors. Minister Shahbazov highlighted Azerbaijan’s ongoing renewable energy strategy, which aims to diversify the country’s energy mix and expand sustainable energy supply options.
He noted that the first phase of Azerbaijan’s green energy development plan—focused on meeting domestic energy needs and increasing the share of renewable sources in electricity generation capacity to 33%—is nearing completion. Additionally, measures are being taken to strengthen the national power grid, and new projects for expanding renewable energy capacity are under consideration.
The discussions also covered the implementation of green energy interconnectors linking Azerbaijan with Türkiye, Europe, and Central Asia, underlining the importance of supplying European markets with clean energy.
Furthermore, the parties exchanged views on key energy infrastructure projects, including the Southern Gas Corridor and the Green Energy Advisory Council, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy security and sustainability.
