Indonesia Prepares 6,291 Mosques as Eid Homecoming Support Posts

Jakarta, March 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has designated 6,291 mosques as support posts under the Friendly Mosque initiative to assist travelers during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus.

“We have coordinated with the regional offices of the ministry so that the mosque-based posts along the homecoming routes are ready to provide the best services,” said Abu Rokhmad, Director General of Islamic Community Development at the ministry, on Tuesday.

The initiative, launched in response to Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar’s directive, aims to enhance comfort for homecoming travelers. The designated mosques will remain open 24 hours, offering clean water, resting areas, and meals for iftar.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs is also encouraging mosque management agencies (BKM) to actively participate in providing quality services. “This is a real manifestation of religious services that have an impact on the community,” Rokhmad stated.

According to the Directorate General of Islamic Community Development, the 6,291 mosques prepared for the initiative are spread across 23 provinces. The number is expected to grow as more community members contribute by donating food and other resources.

The Friendly Mosque program follows the guidelines set by the Religious Affairs Minister’s Circular Number 2 of 2025, which urges mosques to remain open round-the-clock to ensure a smooth and comfortable homecoming journey for travelers.
