Andijan, April 18, 2025 — The Europe Today: During his visit to a social services center in the Andijan region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a comprehensive presentation outlining the future development of the sports sector and the promotion of the Olympic movement in Uzbekistan.
The presentation highlighted that over 10 million residents across the country are currently engaged in mass sports activities. Regular competitions are held in districts, educational institutions, and workplaces to encourage widespread participation. In line with national goals, Uzbekistan aims to increase this figure to 15 million active participants. To support this objective, a series of tournaments will be launched, including the “Mahalla League,” “School League,” “Student League,” “Minister’s Cup,” and “Trade Union Cup.”
The review also addressed the implementation of instructions previously given by President Mirziyoyev during a videoconference meeting held on February 13. These directives focused on the identification and development of young athletes’ skills. Accordingly, efforts are now underway to strengthen talent discovery, enhance sports education, and elevate Olympic training standards nationwide.
Key to this transformation will be the network of 254 sports schools and 56 specialized institutions dedicated to Olympic disciplines. These establishments will serve as foundational training bases for national teams. Promising young athletes, selected at the local level, will undergo systematic training programs tailored to their anthropometric characteristics and physical capabilities.
As part of these initiatives, the government will organize a new competition series titled “Olympic Heights of New Uzbekistan”, to be held biannually. Winners of regional qualifying rounds will earn the opportunity to participate in the “Presidential Olympiad”, an annual event scheduled for December at the Olympic Village. Top performers will receive valuable rewards, including housing and automobiles. Additionally, first- and second-place finishers will gain admission to the Republican Olympic and Paralympic Training Centers.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of establishing a vertically integrated sports education system and incorporating advanced training methodologies. He issued further instructions to improve the efficiency of sports schools and ensure the development of highly skilled athletes capable of achieving excellence on the international stage.
These strategic measures reaffirm Uzbekistan’s commitment to fostering a dynamic sports culture and positioning the country as a strong contender in global Olympic and athletic arenas.
