Ashgabat, April 19, 2025 — The Europe Today: Turkmenistan is actively exploring the possibility of hosting a specialized international exhibition on agriculture, in cooperation with the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE). The announcement was made by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, during a recent presentation to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the future of Turkmenistan’s international exhibition strategy.
According to TDH (Turkmenistan’s state news agency), Meredov proposed the creation of a dedicated fund to support the organization of the potential “EXPO” event, alongside efforts to engage major international companies. The proposal aligns with the Concept of International Exhibition Activities of Turkmenistan for 2024–2025, which was approved by presidential decree in August 2023.
The initiative is part of Turkmenistan’s broader goal of boosting its visibility and influence on the global exhibition stage. A key milestone in this effort was Turkmenistan’s election to the Administrative and Budgetary Committee of the BIE for the 2024–2025 term, during the 173rd General Assembly held in Paris on November 28, 2023.
The most recent meeting of the BIE’s committee, attended by the organization’s Secretary General, was held in Ashgabat on March 19, 2025, signaling Turkmenistan’s growing engagement with the bureau and the global exhibition community.
Meredov also laid out plans for Turkmenistan’s participation in two upcoming international expos:
- Green EXPO 2027 in Yokohama, Japan
- EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, Serbia
Additionally, he proposed the development of a 2025–2027 training program to build the skills of Turkmen professionals involved in exhibition and fair organization, a move aimed at enhancing the country’s long-term capacity in this sector.
President Berdimuhamedov welcomed the report, praised Turkmenistan’s evolving cooperation with the BIE, and instructed further development of the country’s international exhibition agenda. This proposed agriculture EXPO could serve as a significant platform for Turkmenistan to showcase its agricultural potential, attract foreign investment, and foster technological exchanges in sustainable farming and food security.
