Khankendi, April 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: A delegation from NomadMania, the world’s largest competitive travel community, comprising representatives from 30 countries, visited the Azerbaijani city of Khankendi on Thursday as part of a broader tour to the country’s Karabakh and East Zangezur regions.
According to AZERTAC’s regional correspondent, the visit commenced with a tour of Garabagh University, where the travelers engaged with students and academic staff, learning about the institution’s mission and development. The visit also included a solemn moment of remembrance, as the delegation observed a minute of silence in honor of Azerbaijani martyrs.
Rector of Garabagh University, Shahin Bayramov, welcomed the visitors and provided insights into the university and the city of Khankendi. He noted that Garabagh University was established by a decree of President Ilham Aliyev on November 28, 2023, and emphasized that comprehensive facilities had been developed in a short time to ensure the university’s effective operation.
As part of the program, the delegation viewed the documentary “First Steps in Peace,” which was followed by an interactive Q&A session, offering further context into the region’s post-conflict development and educational aspirations.
The visit to Khankendi marks the beginning of a three-day itinerary for the NomadMania delegation, during which they will explore the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions. The trip will include firsthand observation of the extensive restoration, reconstruction, and demining efforts currently underway, as well as the damage inflicted during the years of occupation by Armenian forces.
This visit holds particular significance in the context of “black tourism,” as it aims to raise global awareness about Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and the country’s commitment to rebuilding and revitalizing these regions for sustainable peace and development.
