Baku, April 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: A new round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Swiss Confederation was held in Bern, according to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
The Azerbaijani delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, engaged in talks with the Swiss delegation headed by Muriel Peneveyre, Head of the Eurasia Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.
During the consultations, both sides discussed bilateral political relations, stressing the significance of maintaining an active political dialogue through mutual visits and meetings on the margins of international events. The discussions also covered the current state and future prospects of cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, transport, and humanitarian affairs, as well as collaboration within international organizations.
The two parties emphasized the necessity of developing a comprehensive legal and contractual framework to facilitate expanded cooperation across various sectors.
Deputy Minister Rzayev highlighted Azerbaijan’s contributions to climate diplomacy and the global climate agenda, notably the country’s role as President of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). He provided an overview of initiatives proposed within the COP29 framework and the progress achieved to date.
Additionally, the consultations included an exchange of views on the post-conflict situation in the South Caucasus, the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process, Azerbaijan’s efforts to ensure lasting peace, the challenges posed by landmines in liberated territories, and the ongoing large-scale reconstruction and restoration projects.
During his visit to Bern, Deputy Minister Rzayev also held a series of other meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.
