President Ilham Aliyev Receives Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin in Baku

Baku, May 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Alexander Turchin, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, in Baku on Monday, marking one of the Prime Minister’s first foreign visits since his appointment.

President Aliyev underscored the longstanding friendship and mutual trust that form the foundation of Azerbaijan-Belarus relations. He welcomed Prime Minister Turchin’s visit as a testament to the strong partnership between the two nations and emphasized the need to further deepen economic and trade cooperation, aligning them with the high level of political relations.

Prime Minister Turchin conveyed warm greetings from President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, which President Aliyev gratefully acknowledged, asking the Prime Minister to extend his own greetings in return.

Noting that this was his first visit to Baku, Prime Minister Turchin expressed admiration for the capital’s dynamic development.

During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on expanding bilateral economic and trade ties. They highlighted the continued production of Belarusian automotive equipment at the Ganja Automobile Plant and the creation of service centers across Azerbaijan to support these vehicles. Discussions also covered prospects for joint production in various sectors, including elevator systems, household appliances, and agriculture. Specific attention was given to livestock farming, dairy and meat processing, and poultry farming, with both sides agreeing to implement experience exchange in these areas. Corresponding tasks were assigned to the Intergovernmental Commission.

The Azerbaijani side expressed satisfaction with the active participation of Belarusian companies in the reconstruction of territories liberated following the conflict. Prime Minister Turchin noted his intent to visit these regions to observe progress on the ground.

The leaders also discussed cooperation in urban planning. President Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan will host the World Urban Forum in 2026 and extended an invitation for Belarus to actively participate in the event.

The meeting concluded with a broad exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest, further reaffirming the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
