Riyadh, May 18, 2025 — The Europe Today: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has lauded the growing momentum in relations between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, attributing the positive trajectory to the “vision put forward by our leaders.”
Speaking on Sunday at the second meeting of the Turkish-Saudi Coordination Council in Riyadh, Minister Fidan expressed satisfaction with the deepening ties between the two regional powers. “We are pleased with the momentum gained in the sincere and close cooperation between our countries, which are two important actors in our region and the Islamic world, based on the vision put forward by our leaders,” he stated.
Fidan met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan as part of efforts to further enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors. The Coordination Council, a pivotal diplomatic platform, is aimed at bolstering political, economic, and strategic collaboration between Ankara and Riyadh.
According to Turkish diplomatic sources, Fidan emphasized during the meeting that Türkiye and Saudi Arabia — linked by profound “historical and human ties” — have demonstrated the resilience and depth of their partnership amid numerous regional and global challenges. He underscored Ankara’s commitment to advancing coordination with Riyadh for the sake of peace and stability in the broader region.
“Turkish-Saudi relations, shaped by historical and human ties, have proven their strength and resilience in the face of challenges and difficulties,” Fidan said.
Economic cooperation featured prominently in Fidan’s remarks, with the minister highlighting that bilateral trade volume had reached $8 billion in 2024. He expressed confidence in further expansion.
“In line with our common goals, we aim to reach $10 billion this year, and in the medium and long term, $30 billion. Considering the complementary nature of our economies, I believe we can easily achieve this target,” he noted.
Fidan described the Turkish-Saudi Coordination Council as a vital institutional mechanism for advancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, energy, defence, investment, and education.
In a concrete step to enhance diplomatic capacity-building, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Turkish Foreign Ministry’s Diplomacy Academy and Saudi Arabia’s Prince Saud Al Faisal Institute of Diplomatic Studies. The agreement is expected to facilitate increased collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two nations’ diplomatic training institutions.
The second session of the Coordination Council reaffirmed the shared commitment of Türkiye and Saudi Arabia to work closely on mutual interests and regional stability.
