Türkiye and Burkina Faso Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Sign Cooperation Agreements During Deputy FM Duran’s Visit

Ouagadougou, May 18, 2025 — The Europe Today: Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burhanettin Duran concluded an official two-day visit to Burkina Faso on May 13–14, aimed at bolstering bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation on regional security, particularly counterterrorism, according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

During his visit, Duran met with Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo and Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traore. The discussions focused on recent developments in Burkina Faso and the wider Sahel region, emphasizing joint efforts in combating terrorism and expanding mutual cooperation.

Prime Minister Ouedraogo highlighted the shared commitment between Ankara and Ouagadougou to diversify and deepen bilateral relations. “There is a strong will on both sides to elevate our partnership to new levels,” he stated.

Foreign Minister Traore praised Türkiye as a steadfast ally, acknowledging its support during critical times. “Türkiye extended a helping hand to Burkina Faso amid its battle against terrorism, contributing to restoring peace and security across the country,” he said. Traore described Türkiye as a strategic partner and affirmed Burkina Faso’s commitment to intensifying bilateral cooperation.

The visit culminated in the signing of two memoranda of understanding between the respective foreign ministries, signaling a concrete step toward enhanced collaboration.

It was also agreed that political consultations encompassing all areas of bilateral interest will be held in Ankara later this year.

The visit marks another milestone in the growing relationship between Türkiye and African nations, underscoring Ankara’s broader diplomatic and strategic engagement on the continent.
