Turkish Festival in Chicago Celebrates Culture, Cuisine, and Artistry with Resounding Success

Chicago, May 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: The three-day Turkish Festival, a vibrant celebration of Türkiye’s rich cultural heritage, concluded this weekend at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, marking what organizers call a major step toward establishing Turkish culture as a permanent fixture in Chicago’s diverse cultural scene.

Considered one of North America’s most comprehensive Turkish cultural showcases, the event drew thousands of visitors who immersed themselves in traditional Turkish cuisine, artisanal crafts, live performances, and hands-on art workshops.

The festival opened with a colorful parade led by a traditional Ottoman military band (mehter), setting the tone for an immersive cultural experience. Attendees explored over 200 booths featuring regional delicacies, with special culinary presentations by renowned Turkish chef Ramazan Bingöl.

Art played a central role in the festival. Visitors engaged with centuries-old Turkish art forms including ebru (paper marbling), tezhip (illumination), ceramics, calligraphy, filography, wood printing, and porcelain painting. These demonstrations were coordinated by Rumeysa Özperk, head of the festival’s art team.

“We had eight artists and seven different art forms on display. The interest, especially in ebru and tezhip, was overwhelming,” said Özperk. “Over three days, we welcomed nearly a thousand participants to our workshops. It was both culturally rewarding and commercially successful.”

Festival co-founder Halil Demir expressed satisfaction with the turnout and response, stating the event surpassed expectations and has earned a lasting place on Chicago’s cultural calendar.

“This festival has become more than just a celebration—it’s now a cultural bridge. It not only connects the Turkish-American community to its roots but also introduces the richness of Turkish heritage to a broader audience,” Demir said.

The Turkish Festival in Chicago is set to return next year, promising to further strengthen cultural ties and deepen appreciation for Türkiye’s timeless traditions.
