Wang Yi and African Envoys Mark Africa Day, Pledge Stronger China-Africa Cooperation

Beijing, May 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday met with diplomatic envoys from over 50 African countries and representatives of the African Union (AU) in China to jointly commemorate Africa Day in Beijing, reaffirming China’s commitment to deepening strategic relations with the African continent.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the significant progress in China-Africa relations, noting that President Xi Jinping has visited Africa five times since the beginning of China’s new era, advancing a foreign policy grounded in sincerity, real results, amity, and good faith. He underscored the guiding principles of pursuing mutual benefit and shared interests, and the enduring spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation.

“These principles have elevated China’s bilateral relations with all African countries to a strategic level,” Wang said, adding that China-Africa relations have now entered their best period in history, with the overarching vision of building an “all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.”

Wang also recalled the landmark 2023 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing, during which President Xi proposed six key initiatives and ten partnership actions aimed at jointly advancing modernization. He said China is prepared to leverage the upcoming ministerial coordinator meeting for implementing FOCAC outcomes to realize the leaders’ consensus, foster high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, champion the Global Development Initiative, and accelerate the collective modernization of China and Africa.

In the face of global uncertainty, Wang stressed the importance of China and Africa reinforcing their solidarity. “The more turbulent the international environment becomes, the more China and Africa must strengthen unity, oppose power politics, uphold multilateralism, safeguard the UN-centered international system, and jointly promote trade and investment liberalization,” he stated.

He further affirmed China’s unwavering support for Africa’s just positions and its aspirations to assume a larger role on the global stage.

In response, the African envoys expressed deep appreciation for China’s global initiatives and President Xi’s vision for partnership, stating that they are inspired and encouraged by the proposed cooperation mechanisms. The envoys reiterated the continent’s firm support for the one-China principle and China’s efforts to uphold sovereignty and national reunification.

They emphasized their shared determination to oppose external interference in China’s internal affairs and to jointly uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter. The diplomats also voiced their commitment to working alongside China to safeguard the interests of the Global South and promote a more balanced and inclusive international order.

The event served as both a celebration of Africa’s unity and a reaffirmation of the enduring and evolving strategic partnership between China and the African continent.
