Iran, Oman Pledge Closer Cooperation in Joint Statement

Muscat, May 29, 2025 – The Europe Today: Iran and Oman have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional challenges in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s official two-day visit to Muscat.

President Pezeshkian visited the Sultanate at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, in line with what the joint statement described as “a strong historical bond between the two brotherly nations” and a shared desire to deepen bilateral ties and promote sustainable collaboration.

During high-level discussions, the two leaders reviewed the prospects of joint cooperation in various sectors and discussed avenues for enhanced coordination on issues of mutual interest. They expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral relations and stressed the importance of broadening economic partnerships, particularly by encouraging private sector engagement to increase trade and investment flows.

The statement emphasized the need for regular meetings of the Iran-Oman Joint Commission and the effective implementation of agreements reached within its framework, as a mechanism for sustaining progress in economic, political, and cultural cooperation.

Addressing pressing regional and international developments, President Pezeshkian and Sultan Haitham discussed the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip. In a united stance, both leaders strongly condemned the atrocities committed against the Palestinian people and called for:

  • A complete and permanent ceasefire,
  • An end to oppression and acts of genocide in Gaza and other occupied Palestinian territories,
  • And the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians across the region.

They also categorically rejected any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians from their ancestral homeland, affirming their support for Palestinian rights and sovereignty.

President Pezeshkian praised Oman’s longstanding role as a mediator in regional diplomacy, particularly its facilitation of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States on nuclear-related matters. He further lauded the issuance of a joint Iran-Oman commemorative postage stamp as a meaningful gesture of cultural diplomacy and neighborly friendship.

For his part, Sultan Haitham expressed optimism that continued dialogue between Iran and the United States would yield a constructive outcome, contributing to broader regional and international peace and prosperity.

As his official visit concluded, President Pezeshkian extended heartfelt appreciation to Sultan Haitham, the Omani government, and the people of Oman for their warm welcome and generous hospitality. The visit, which marked a renewed commitment to strategic partnership, was seen as a significant step forward in strengthening the bonds between Tehran and Muscat.Tools
