Baku, June 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Azerbaijan national team has made history by winning the European Chovgan Championship for the first time. The final match of the tournament, organized by the International Chovgan Federation, took place in Poland from June 5 to 7, 2025.
In the decisive final, Azerbaijan faced Malta and secured a convincing 6–2 victory, claiming the championship trophy and marking a new milestone in the legacy of Chovgan—a traditional equestrian sport.
The championship began on June 5 with six countries competing: Azerbaijan, Turkey, Hungary, Malta, Poland, and the United Kingdom. Azerbaijan started strong by defeating Turkey 3–0 in their opening match. Continuing their dominant performance, the Azerbaijani team advanced to the final by beating Hungary 4–0 in the semi-finals on June 6.
Looking ahead, the international Chovgan calendar includes major continental tournaments scheduled for early September in Uzbekistan (Asia), late September in Nigeria (Africa), and November in Buenos Aires (South America), promising further global growth for the sport.
Azerbaijan’s historic victory highlights the nation’s rising prominence in Chovgan and strengthens its position in the international equestrian sports community.
