Baku, June 13, 2025 – The Europe Today: At the ongoing trial held at the Baku Military Court on June 12, defendant Levon Mnatsakanyan provided testimony under questioning from the state prosecutor, admitting to the planting of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines in territories formerly occupied by Armenian forces.
Mnatsakanyan, a former military commander of the self-proclaimed separatist regime, revealed that the mines were initially of Soviet origin and later procured from the Russian Federation. These were subsequently delivered to the separatist forces via Armenia. “Recently, mines were also produced in the Republic of Armenia and supplied to us,” he stated during the proceedings.
In previous court sessions, Mnatsakanyan acknowledged that the so-called armed forces of the separatist regime were effectively part of the Armenian armed forces, further underscoring the direct involvement of Armenia in military activities within internationally recognized Azerbaijani territories.
The trial forms part of broader judicial proceedings against Armenian nationals accused of a range of serious crimes, including war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, terrorism, aggression, and violations of international humanitarian law. Additional charges include the financing of terrorism, unlawful seizure and retention of power, and other grave offenses.
The case continues to draw significant attention as Azerbaijan seeks accountability for actions committed during the decades-long conflict over its sovereign territories.
