Jakarta, June 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto will not attend the ongoing G7 Summit in Canada, as he is fulfilling prior international commitments, including official visits to Singapore and Russia, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) confirmed on Monday.
According to PCO Head Hasan Nasbi, the president’s absence from the G7 Summit is not reflective of any geopolitical leaning or strategic realignment. “The president received numerous honorary invitations from various countries, but some of them overlapped in schedule and were geographically distant—Canada, Russia, and Singapore. The government appreciates all of these invitations,” Nasbi said.
Nasbi clarified that invitations to attend major international events such as the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Russia and the Leaders’ Retreat in Singapore were received and confirmed well in advance, while the invitation to the G7 Summit arrived only in early June.
At SPIEF, taking place from June 18 to 21, President Prabowo is slated to deliver a keynote address. Meanwhile, his visit to Singapore has already resulted in the signing of more than ten high-value bilateral agreements, further advancing Indonesia’s economic and strategic interests in the region.
Reiterating Indonesia’s longstanding foreign policy stance, Nasbi emphasized that “Indonesia does not align itself with any bloc. We do not see the world in black and white. Speculations suggesting otherwise are unfounded.”
He also highlighted Indonesia’s active and balanced participation in various multilateral platforms. “We’ve just reached an important milestone on our path to OECD membership, while continuing to actively engage with BRICS, the G20, and APEC,” he added.
Nasbi concluded by stating that President Prabowo’s foreign engagements are rooted in careful strategic evaluation. “Indonesia will not join any military or defense blocs. Our participation in international forums is always based on national interest and potential benefits to the country,” he said, urging the public not to be influenced by speculative geopolitical narratives.
President Prabowo’s international agenda, he affirmed, reflects Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy and its commitment to fostering mutually beneficial global partnerships.
