Ankara, June 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has reaffirmed Türkiye’s strong support for Azerbaijan and hailed the historic liberation of Azerbaijani territories during the opening ceremony of the newly inaugurated “Azerbaijan” neighborhood in the city of Kahramanmaraş.
“Fate has given us the opportunity to witness the liberation of Azerbaijani lands after 30 years of occupation,” President Erdoğan stated. “Today, every corner of Karabakh, liberated under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, forms a unified platform for construction and restoration.”
Reflecting on recent developments, President Erdoğan noted his visit to Lachin on May 28, coinciding with Azerbaijan’s Independence Day. “Following the inauguration of international airports in Fuzuli and Zangilan, we opened another air gateway in Lachin. Together with my brother Ilham Aliyev, we participated in this historic event,” he said.
The Turkish leader underscored the symbolic and strategic significance of these infrastructure developments, noting that they reflect the region’s rapid progress since its liberation and demonstrate the deepening partnership between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
President Erdoğan also expressed hope for lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, stating, “The establishment of peace will undoubtedly bring new momentum to reconstruction and development in the region.”
The ceremony in Kahramanmaraş was held to honor Azerbaijan’s generous support following the 2023 earthquakes in southeastern Türkiye. The “Azerbaijan” neighborhood was constructed as part of the country’s humanitarian contribution, further strengthening the fraternal ties between the two nations.
