Amsterdam, June 24, 2025 — The Europe Today: Turkish Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun has underscored Türkiye’s indispensable role in NATO and global security architecture during a panel discussion in Amsterdam, held in advance of the upcoming NATO Summit.
In a video address delivered at the event titled “Türkiye and NATO in the Face of Transforming Security and Information-Based Challenges”, Altun reaffirmed Türkiye’s steadfast contributions to NATO’s missions and operations, characterizing the country as “a key to peace and justice” both regionally and globally.
“As one of the countries that has participated most extensively in NATO operations, Türkiye has been a cornerstone of peace and justice in its region and across the globe, undertaking intense diplomatic efforts in this regard,” Altun stated on Monday.
The panel was organized by the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications and convened in the Dutch capital, bringing together policymakers, scholars, and security experts to explore the evolving nature of global threats and the increasing relevance of information warfare.
Altun praised NATO as the most effective security alliance in modern history, citing its adaptability during the Cold War and in response to contemporary geopolitical shifts. “The alliance has consistently provided security and stability not only within the Euro-Atlantic region but also on a global scale,” he said.
Highlighting the changing global landscape, Altun noted that the international system is undergoing structural transformations marked by shifting power dynamics and ruptures across political, economic, and security domains.
He also drew attention to the expanded scope of security threats facing the alliance, emphasizing that challenges now go beyond conventional military concerns. “We must acknowledge the rise of information manipulation and foreign interference as critical threats to NATO’s strategic communications,” Altun cautioned.
The event served as a timely platform to reflect on NATO’s strategic priorities ahead of the summit and to reaffirm Türkiye’s commitment to collective security in an increasingly complex global environment.
