Islamabad, June 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Islamabad and the United Nations Pakistan have agreed to coordinate efforts to mobilize international participation for the 2nd United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake, scheduled to be held from July 27 to 29, 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The development came during a meeting between H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and H.E. Mr. Mohamed Yahya, the UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan.
Both dignitaries discussed the critical importance of Pakistan’s leadership participating in the Summit, which is co-hosted by Ethiopia and Italy. Ambassador Dr. Jemal briefed the UN Resident Coordinator on the extensive preparations being undertaken by Addis Ababa to successfully host the Summit, which aims to assess progress and foster global collaboration for transforming food systems.
“The Summit presents an excellent opportunity to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan,” Ambassador Dr. Jemal stated.
He also highlighted the visionary policies of Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed in promoting climate adaptation, green development, and food self-sufficiency. Key initiatives such as the Green Legacy Initiative, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and the Bounty of Basket program were underscored as examples of Ethiopia’s dedication to sustainable development.
The Ambassador further emphasized the growing cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan, particularly in addressing climate change and ensuring food security.
In response, Mr. Mohamed Yahya praised Ethiopia’s remarkable efforts in forestation, food security, and environmental sustainability. He assured Ambassador Dr. Jemal of his full support to ensure the success of the Food Systems Summit and the realization of its objectives.
Mr. Yahya also commended Ethiopia’s proactive role in promoting food security and its steadfast commitment to multilateralism, as demonstrated by Addis Ababa’s consistent hosting of major international conferences and summits in recent years.
