Wydad Casablanca Sign Bart Meijers and Guilherme Ferreira to Strengthen Defensive Line

Casablanca, July 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club have officially announced the signing of defenders Bart Meijers and Guilherme Ferreira as part of the club’s efforts to bolster their backline with international experience ahead of the upcoming season.

Dutch centre-back Bart Meijers, 28, joins Wydad on a free transfer following his departure from FK Borac Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s top division. Meijers, who was recently named in the league’s Best XI, has signed a one-year contract with an option to extend for an additional season. His market value is estimated at €700,000.

Brazilian defender Guilherme Ferreira, 25, also returns to Wydad after spending last month on loan with the Casablanca-based side. Following the conclusion of his contract with Portuguese club FC Felgueiras, Ferreira signed a two-year permanent deal with Wydad. The club activated the €377,000 buy clause, slightly below his current market valuation of €400,000.

Wydad’s defensive struggles last season were evident both in the domestic Botola Pro League and on the international stage at the Club World Cup. These new signings are seen as key components of the club’s broader strategy to reinforce the squad with seasoned international talent as they aim to reclaim their position at the top of Moroccan football.

Wydad finished third in the league last season, missing out on silverware—a result that has prompted significant squad adjustments as the club prepares for a more competitive campaign.
