Sofia / Kyiv, July 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: Bulgaria has expressed a strong commitment to contributing to Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, particularly in the fields of energy, trade, and infrastructure, according to GERB party leader Boyko Borissov. During a meeting with Ukrainian Ambassador to Bulgaria, Olesya Ilashchuk, Borissov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s readiness to assist Ukraine in rebuilding its war-torn nation.
Borissov emphasized Bulgaria’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s European integration, underlining that his country stands firmly behind Ukraine’s aspirations for a European future.
This announcement comes at a critical time as Ukraine grapples with vast reconstruction challenges following widespread devastation caused by the ongoing war. International partners, including the European Union, have pledged substantial aid packages aimed at restoring essential infrastructure, energy systems, and economic activity. The EU’s coordinated efforts underscore the need for support from all member states — including Bulgaria — in helping Ukraine recover.
Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to endure severe military assaults. A large-scale Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv that began on July 3 and extended into July 4 left at least 23 people injured, including a 10-year-old girl. Fourteen of the victims required hospitalization. The attack, one of the most intense in recent weeks, involved Shahed drones and ballistic missiles, including a Kinzhal launched from a MiG-31K.
The barrage caused extensive damage across several districts of the capital, setting fires in residential buildings, commercial premises, and a medical facility. Railway infrastructure was also affected, and residents were advised to keep their windows shut due to hazardous levels of air pollution.
Despite Ukraine’s air defense systems intercepting most incoming threats, debris from downed projectiles caused significant destruction. Similar drone strikes in Poltava injured two people and damaged civilian infrastructure, with other cities reportedly under threat as well.
These attacks follow a deadly assault on June 17 and coincide with renewed Russian rhetoric affirming continued military operations. Recent developments, including the suspension of key U.S. military aid, have raised concerns about Ukraine’s ability to defend itself amid escalating assaults.
As the war intensifies, Bulgaria’s offer to aid Ukraine’s reconstruction sends a message of solidarity, reinforcing European unity in the face of aggression and highlighting the urgent need for sustained international support.
