Abu Dhabi, July 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, reaffirming the robust strategic partnership between the two nations.
The meeting underscored the strong foundation of friendship and brotherhood that continues to define Azerbaijan-UAE relations. Both leaders praised the high level of political dialogue and the dynamic growth of economic and trade cooperation between their countries.
President Aliyev and President Sheikh Mohamed fondly recalled their reciprocal visits — President Aliyev’s visit to the UAE in January and President Sheikh Mohamed’s visit to Azerbaijan — which featured comprehensive discussions across a wide-ranging bilateral agenda, laying the groundwork for continued collaboration.
Focus on Energy and Renewables
During the talks, the Presidents placed particular emphasis on strategic cooperation in the energy sector, especially in the field of renewable energy. They hailed the ongoing collaboration between SOCAR (State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan) and ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), as well as between Azerbaijan and Masdar, the UAE’s leading renewable energy company.
The leaders discussed future joint projects aimed at accelerating clean energy transition and enhancing sustainable energy infrastructure, aligning with the global climate agenda and both countries’ national energy goals.
Appreciation for Multilateral Engagement
The two Presidents also highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation, referencing the recent Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit held in Khankendi. President Aliyev expressed appreciation for the UAE’s high-level participation, which underscored the shared commitment to regional collaboration and economic development.
Signing of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement
A key highlight of the meeting was the signing of the “Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA)” between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Arab Emirates. The agreement, signed in the presence of both Presidents, marks a significant milestone in the expansion of bilateral economic relations and institutionalizes deeper cooperation across trade, investment, energy, and innovation.
Strengthening Diplomatic Ties
To conclude the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev presented a keepsake to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as a symbol of the enduring friendship and mutual respect between the two countries.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Azerbaijan-UAE relations and advancing shared interests through strategic cooperation and high-level dialogue.
