President Ilham Aliyev Holds High-Level Meeting with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov

Baku, July 16, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a one-on-one meeting on Wednesday with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, as part of his official visit to Azerbaijan.

Upon arrival at the Presidential Palace, Chairman Berdimuhamedov was warmly welcomed by President Aliyev. The two leaders posed for official photographs before proceeding to bilateral talks.

In his welcoming remarks, President Ilham Aliyev expressed sincere appreciation for the visit and emphasized the enduring brotherly ties between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

“Dear Gurbanguly Malikgulyyevich, welcome to Azerbaijan. I am confident that your visit will make a significant contribution to the development of the brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan,” the President stated.
“Our peoples are united by deep-rooted fraternal traditions, and we have achieved successful cooperation in numerous spheres, including politics, economics, transport, energy, and humanitarian affairs.”

Chairman Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. In his address, he underlined the strategic importance of the visit and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to deepening ties with Azerbaijan.

“My current visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan aims to further strengthen our bilateral relations and provide new incentives for joint projects,” said Berdimuhamedov.
“I define our interstate relations in three words: brotherhood, good neighborliness, and cooperation.”

He noted the shared historical and cultural heritage of both nations and stressed the importance of leveraging mutual political, economic, and human potential for the prosperity of both countries.

Chairman Berdimuhamedov also highlighted the consistent and effective cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan in multilateral fora, particularly within the United Nations and regional organizations. He congratulated Azerbaijan on its recent successful hosting of the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Khankendi.

“Our partnership is based on a high level of mutual understanding and trust between our leaders, which ensures timely and effective decisions,” he noted.

The discussions further addressed areas of ongoing and prospective collaboration, including trade, education, culture, and inter-parliamentary dialogue. Both sides emphasized their shared commitment to international law, regional peace, and stability, particularly in the Caspian Sea region.

President Aliyev concluded the meeting by thanking Chairman Berdimuhamedov for his visit and requested him to convey his greetings to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The meeting reaffirmed the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan and paved the way for new levels of bilateral cooperation.
